Five Guys’ prices sparks outrage after $24 receipt goes viral: ‘Highway robbery’

A controversial $24 bill from an Five Guys restaurant has recently caused social media users to be up in the air and is just the latest indication that the high cost of living during the Biden administration continues to be a drag on the lives of everyday Americans.

An X account called Wall Street Silver published a image of the receipt that went viral that he claimed to have obtained from Reddit on the day of Mar. 1.

“Five Guys prices are out of control,” the X user wrote. “$24 for one person.”

The receipt indicates the bacon cheeseburger offered for $12.49 as well as regular soda at $2.89. A tiny portion of fries was added for an astounding $5.19.

The total of the order was $21.91 without tax. The customer added an additional $2.19 tip, which brought the total to an expensive $24.10.

The X blog has been seen more than 25.2 million times and has provoked a debate over the popular fast food chain’s price.

“I guess I was expecting about $12 to $15 per person for Five Guys,” Wall Street Silver said on X. “$22 (without tip) just seems to cross a line. What is the right amount these days?”

A lot of fast food outlets have raised prices after inflation rose to over 9 percent in the peak. Although the top line inflation has decreased but prices for a variety of food items are still high. Prices for beef are up by 7 percent and steak is more than 10%, as per the most recent consumer price index reading.

Prices at Chick-fil A have risen by 21% from the beginning of 2022. Domino’s Pizza CFO Sandeep Reddy recently announced that the company is planning “for a modest price increase in the low-single digits.”

There were many X accounts were the same agreement as the user and criticised the price of burgers at the restaurant.

“5 dollars for a small fry is highway robbery,” one commentator wrote. “It’s literally just a potato and some salt. Cost them a quarter to make.”

“I know a way to save $2.19 on that real quick,” another user told.

“You ain’t seen nothing yet. Wait until that $20 an hour minimum wage in California kicks in,” another X user predicted.

Other social media users were not shocked by the cost.

“Five Guys has always been more premium than others, though,” user Ian Miles Cheong wrote.

“Five guys was always overpriced. Same meal was $15 ten years ago,” an unimpressed journalist said.
