Attorney General Bob Ferguson’s office may arrest or civilly imprison conservatives who speak out in a frightening and illegal plan to define domestic terrorism. This plan punishes speech.
His office claims that some conservative views or any information he considers “misinformation” are examples of “domestic extremeism.” He also wants to establish a Washington Ministry of Truth to help journalists push his political agenda.
The HB 1333 would establish a left-leaning Domestic Violent Extremism Commission within the AG’s Office. They are to propose legislative solutions to combat disinformation and false information, address early signs and radicalization and create a public-health-style response.
This is not a matter of “public health”, and it would not be under the Department of Health. It is designed to legal penalize or commit political enemies. The “comprehensive” report of the commission must assess current laws and tools in order to combat extremism, and recommend new legislation where necessary.
Washingtonians might be misled by the title and the statements in the press that are made public. Even better, it has an inherent deflection mechanism: If you criticize this bill, Ferguson and his accomplices will accuse your of supporting white supremacy. They won’t be fooled.
This commission was created to specifically target conservatives and crush any opposition from the government. That is why legislation deliberately ignores Antifa (BLM) extremists. It explicitly supports these tactics. Megan Dunn, a Snohomish County Councilmember, testified in support. She has previously supported Molotov cocktail attack as a “good reminder” of civic engagement.
The AG defines domestic violence extremism as more than just political violence. The conduct does not have to be violent. Ferguson cites “online disinformation” as an example of what they are trying to target.
During a House Committee presentation about Washington extremism, a member from the Anti Defamation League presented local and regional examples extremist behavior. It was primarily about white supremacy violence, propaganda and hatemongers, even though there have been few incidents.
Antifa violence? What is Antifa violence?
The presentation was notable in that it did not mention Antifa violence or Black Lives Matter despite months of political-instigated violence and threats. This included the killing of two black boys at the Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone, a violent bat attack on the head of a police officer and an attempt to burn down officers inside a precinct left-wing extremists tried to close.
Although the presentation was critical of a bail fund that was purportedly used for members of right-wing Proud Boys to get out of trouble, it did not mention the exact same strategy that was used locally (and nationally by Antifa radicals) and was amplified later by Kamala Harris, the then-candidate.
ADL representative pointed out that white supremacists share a “common cause” and are “anti-mask, anti-vaccine narratives,” as well as “anti-critical-race theory narratives” and critics of election security. Although she claimed they use protests about these issues to recruit new members but didn’t provide any evidence to support that claim,
White conservatives being targeted
The office of the AG makes it clear that they are primarily interested targeting white people. His office rejected the term “domestic terrorist” as it could be too “triggering” for minority communities. It was an AG Office report that it had compiled after it asked a number of stakeholders to investigate violent domestic extremism.
The stakeholder group didn’t include any conservative or moderate political groups. It included the American Civil Liberties Union and the Council on Islamic Relations as well as Planned Parenthood Alliance Advocates. The group, which was unsurprisingly focused on white conservatives and called them extremists while arguing that systemic racism within police departments attracts extremists.
HB 1333 was drafted using the left-wing, partisan recommendations of the group.
Terrifying implications
The commission’s main task is to identify “solutions for combating disinformation and missinformation” and to “address early indicators of radicalization.” Ferguson indicated that his office would use social networking posts to locate “extremists,” and their data would be stored by government.
Who decides what constitutes disinformation and misinformation? Who were the legislators who said that the vaccine stopped the spread of COVID. They who considered the lab leak theory to be a conspiracy. They claim that there are 74 genders one can have (or not have) depending on one’s feelings. It could be the people who call the Hunter Biden laptop “Russian Disinformation.” Simply asking whether elections are secure enough is misinformation.
To discredit opponents and make them extremists, the Left uses misinformation or disinformation claims to try to silence them. They will now be able use this strategy to silence opposition, putting them in prison or having them commit under a “public-health approach.”
What kind of “solutions?” could they come up with? AG Ferguson has a plan.
The bill requires the commission to review “current legal instruments, both criminal and civil, and make recommendations for possible new legislation and regulations to combat violent domestic extremism.”
It is easy to see how these can be misused and lead to civil liberty violations.
Ferguson is open to new ideas for criminally charging conservatives who object to government overreach. He is open to the idea of creating them if they aren’t already. Ironically and tragically, he could also arrest anyone protesting the legislature’s adoption of new laws inspired from the commission.
This is about the targeting speech
Ferguson stated that he wants to target speech and not violence.
PBS calls the legislation a possible “model for America” and Ferguson stated that the federal definition of domestic terrorist (or extremism), is too narrow to deal with the “great threat that we see with radicalization. For example, he is looking for legislative powers to take action when he hears speech that he disagrees.
He said, “So we’re trying enlarge that term to address things which are not specifically a danger to somebody but where the state can make some preventive action, for example, to take a more holistic approach to public health to address what all of us see and know is occurring in communities across the country.”
Ferguson stated to PBS that he could see “extremists” being forced into counseling. One could be advised to believe there are only two genders. If you do not agree, you can be civilly charged. He hopes to be supported by the media.
Media buying
Sahar Fathi is a radical left-wing activist who was also a representative of the AG’s office. She presented the bill to a House Committee. She stated that the stakeholders’ group behind the legislation wanted to finance journalists fighting misinformation and disinformation.
Fathi stated that “we believe, at the Attorney General’s Office,” that local journalism is an essential part of fighting misinformation and distorting information.” This fellowship program is based on a California program that supported local journalism and media outlets to strengthen that reporting.
They will fund journalists to do their bidding. This is not necessary, given Seattle’s left-wing partisanship. They promote left-wing propaganda free of charge.
This is against the Constitution
Ferguson wants to make protected speech that he doesn’t like criminalized. He’ll also call you an extremist if you try to get in Ferguson’s way.
His approach is clearly unconstitutional. He hopes that the friendly Washington state Supreme Court will eventually give him a pass. Ferguson bets that the U.S. Supreme Court will be controlled by liberals, given that the research is still being completed by the commission.
This scam is a trap for irredeemably left-wing voters who don’t realize its dangers. Imagine what it would look like if Ferguson’s power was stolen by his political enemy. Four years of Democrats screaming about fascism under President Donald Trump. This legislation is only a confirmation that they don’t really understand the meaning of it.
Ferguson’s bill is a threat to freedoms. He’s younger than Governor Jay Inslee, more power-hungry and smarter than him. This makes him a political threat. Democrats indicate that this will happen. This means that Ferguson will be our next victim.
