Kamala campaign mocked for ‘Kamala(t) Shabbat’ events

The keen-eyed Jewish users noticed that a lot of the Jewish customs and rituals in the ads were not true.

In a desperate effort to regain to the Jewish votes in US Harris-Walz’s campaign as well as The Democratic Party are dispatching Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff to swing states and the people who attend his events have been asked to host events that are dubbed “Kamala(t) Shabbat,” an ode to the Friday evening service of prayer called Kabbalat Shabbat. It is a way to welcome the Sabbath.

However one of the shows was a viral event on social media on Tuesday night, after sharp-eyed Jewish users discovered that a number of the Jewish ceremonies and rituals used in the ads were incorrect.

One of the organizers of “DIY” “Kamala(t) Shabbat” celebrations in Lincoln Square, Chicago, employed a staged photo of the Vice-President Kamala Harris, Emhoff, and other guests to promote the event. However, the picture showed the crowd celebrating Passover but not the Sabbath.

The photo in the announcement for the event on OneTable displayed Seder plates that are served during Seders. They are used during Passover Seder, a feast to commemorate the exodus of Jews from Egypt on the day that generally occurs in April. The meal is celebrated with Jews are encouraged to read The Haggadah about the history of Passover.

The event took place on October 18 during Sukkot, the Jewish celebration that is known as Sukkot (booths) which is an annual harvest festival that falls in autumn, during which Jews typically consume food outside in huts made of straw to remember that journey made by the Jews across the desert. Instead of being in the outdoors, it stated that the event was “indoors” and the photo was of Harris as well as her friends seated around an eating table in the dining room.

The centerpiece of this table, is an orange that isn’t part of the traditional Seder. As per My Jewish Learning, the “custom” was invented in the 1980s by Susannah Heschel, a Jewish feminist scholar who was reading an alternative feminist version of the Haggadah that was written at the turn of 20th Century which advocated adding bread’s crust to the table for seder to show solidarity in solidarity with Jewish lesbians, despite the fact that leavened bread is not permitted during Passover. The website stated that Heschel thought that including bread to the Seder plate, despite the fact that leavened foods are typically banned from Jewish homes during Passover is an unnecessary step and decided instead to add an orange to the next seder, to symbolise the acceptance of gays and lesbians.

Jews using social media platforms were quick to note that the wine at the table was from the region which is Judea and Samaria areas of biblical Israel which far-left activists who have a strong stance on Harris claim are “occupied” by Israel, and as such should boycott all products from the region.

Democrats in Michigan announced an event called “Kamala Shabbat” event in their state, which was designed for “Gather, Reflect, Mobilize.”

“Come to join the movement of the young Jews across the country to create an Kamala(t) Shabbat dinner in your home! (Get it? Kabbalat Shabbat (or Shabbat dinner The next President of the United States – Kamala(t) Shabbat!) There are only two Shabbatot remaining before the election! These DIY Shabbat dinners across the country held in your home for loved ones will give you a chance to come together and discuss the importance of this election and inspire your community to be all-out in the last weeks of the campaign.”

“Sign to join our virtual training and receive a special Kamala(t) Shabbat Dinner guide–think of it as an Shabbat haggadah specifically designed for that intersection of Jewish tradition and democratic principles! Although the campaign won’t organize specific meal plans, the campaign will offer tools that will enable guests and hosts to transform their scheduled Shabbat dinners or menus-to-be into spaces that are conducive to gathering for reflection, reflection, and, more importantly, empowering our community members and friends.”

As per reporter Daniel Greenfield, the diners will be discussing Harris and guests will be reading “passages from her book, The Truths We Hold.” He also said “There’s only one mention of G-d, but multiple mentions of Kamala. There’s no quotes from the Torah but quotes from Kamala’s book.”

A quote on the site of the event that is attributed to Kamala says “Years from now our children and grandchildren will gaze up and gaze at us. They will be asking us what we did when the stakes were high. They will ask us about what we thought about it. We don’t want to simply tell them what we felt. I would like us to be able to tell them about what we did.”

A poll conducted this week, by Manhattan Institute Manhattan Institute found that the majority of Jewish voters typically favors Democrats are now able to support Republican candidates this year that has passed since the October 7 massacre.

According to the poll, just one third of respondents would prefer to vote Democrat. The survey revealed that this was because 41 % of the respondents being extremely concerned about rising antisemitism within the Democratic Party, with those numbers rising among Orthodox Jews, Conservative Jews and Politically Independent Jews. In addition, Harris and the Democratic Party are viewed as the weakest on “Security, Israel, and antisemitism.”

Emhoff was confused as to his reasons for why Jews left his wife’s political party to support the former president Donald Trump during a speech this week in Southfield, Michigan. Emhoff declared, “It’s so vexing to me that any Jew supports him.” Emhoff then made a false claim that Trump is a father of Jewish grandchildren and children, “foments antisemitism everywhere he travels. He doesn’t take a stance on us.”

As per CNN, Jewish attendees at Emhoff’s celebration were urged to write letters encouraging people to hold “Kamala Shabbat” dinners.
